Segerstrom High School is a public high school in Santa Ana, California, and is part of the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD). The school opened in fall of 2005 with a freshman and sophomore class. Wealthy landowner Henry Segerstrom - for whom Segerstrom High School is named - is a familiar name in Orange County. The land upon which Segerstrom High School is built was purchased from the Segerstrom family, who once grew crops on these acres. Segerstrom High School adheres to Fundamental School structure, meaning that all school polices (dress code, discipline, attendance, tardies, homework completion, etc.) are strictly enforced. This structure encourages personal responsibility, college preparation, and good citizenship. Students and parents sign an annual compact, agreeing not only to follow all school policies and rules, but to perform to their best ability. The school declares that its mission is to provide comprehensive, standards-based core curricula grounded on high expectations and accountability for all. The instructional focus is "Read! Write! Learn!" with literacy as a foundation across all disciplines. As part of the school's vision, all staff are committed to doing their best teaching so that all students excel in a collaborative, college-going culture, enabling students to meet or exceed the entry-level requirements of a four-year university. During the fall of 2010, past Principal Dr. Amy Avina shaved her hair off after promising to do so if the school received an API score above the 800 threshold. The API score received was 812, making Segerstrom the first public high school in Santa Ana Unified School District to receive an API score above 800. ==Students== The class of 2008 was the first to graduate from Segerstrom. In order to enroll, students must live within the boundaries set by the school district, or participate in a lottery for incoming freshmen. In addition, students and parents must sign a contract in which they agree to abide by the school's Fundamental Structures. There is an extensive waiting list of students wishing to attend Segerstrom. Segerstrom graduates 98% of its students compared to other schools in the District which consistently graduate a much smaller percentage of their students.
